What is a Physical Therapist?

The physical therapy profession is a clinical practice and doctoral level of education which involves a multidimensional approach. The profession’s vision statement is: Transforming society by optimizing movement to improve the human experience. PTs are movement experts who assess how you move to influence form, function, and effective recruitment to help you achieve your movement goals. We use a knowledge of neurology, kinesiology, and a variety of organ systems including cardiopulmonary function to help you build on moving in the ways that bring you the most joy.

What should I expect when working with a PT, or Dr. Alexander Carey?

A client is evaluated by a physical therapist at the onset of treatment with the primary focus on their musculoskeletal system, neurological system, and inclusion of biopsychosocial factors. The physical therapist then implements a plan of care to include education on management and prevention of a condition with the ultimate goal of achieving long term health benefits. They will likely use hands on techniques, exercise, or both.

Woven into a physical therapist’s treatment plan is empowerment of you to make choices for decreasing dysfunction, reducing pain, improving efficiency of movement and preventing disability. Dr. Alexander Carey is committed to focusing your treatment on you as a whole person, and not viewing just one part as separate from another.
